The purpose of an admission register was to record basic details about children admitted to the school, and about their parents or guardians. The registers were also used to record the progress of the children through various classes and the date of their leaving the school.The present series is represented by a single volume, which covers the years from 1928 to 1950. This is the first volume of the series, commencing with the school’s initial enrolments on its opening on the 28th May, 1928. This volume contains information pertaining to each pupil including: date of admission; pupil's name; date of birth; religious denomination; name of previous school and date of leaving. The following details are recorded about the child's parents or guardians: name, residence and occupation. The pupil's date of admission to each subsequent grade, date of leaving the school and any occupation entered into on leaving school is also recorded, this last column is also used to indicate the school to which a pupil may have transferred.Girls and boys are listed on opposite pages in order of admission. Entries are numbered sequentially. Until the end of 1939, all enrolments, regardless of gender, are part of a single series, numbered from 1 to 1668. At the beginning of 1940 a new series of numbers begins, and is continued until no. 638 at the end of 1946. In each case, the practice of numbering the lines of the register in advance, and the tendency for girls’ enrolments to outstrip those of the boys, has resulted in the presence of many unused numbers on the boys’ pages of the register. At the beginning of 1947 a new numbering system is introduced, with separate series of numbers for boys and for girls, which begin anew with each school year.Admission registers in paper format ceased in 1999 when the department moved to recording enrolment details in electronic format.
