Integral study of Late Cenozoic Volcanism in the South Shetland Islands, Antartica (Estudio Integral del Volcanismo Cenozoico Superior de las Islas Shetland del Sur, Antartica)

In this study, the petrographic characteristics and distribution of volcanic
rocks of the superior cenozoic in the South Shetland Islands are discussed.
The geology of the Coppermine Peninsula, on Robert Island, Potter Peninsula on
King George Island, Bridgeman Island, Penguin Island and Deception Island is
detailed . The evolution of the pleistocene-recent volcanic centers bound to
the tectonic depression of the Bransfield Strait and the recent eruptions on
Deception Island are analyzed.

En este trabajo se discuten las caracteristicas petrograficas y distribucion de
las rocas volcanicas del cenozoico superior en las Islas Shetland del Sur,
Antartica. Se detalla la geologia de Peninsula Copper Mine, Isla Robert, Potter
en Isla Rey Jorge, Bridgeman, Penguin y Decepcion. Se analiza la evolucion de
los centros volcanicos pleistocenico-recientes ligada a la depresion tectonica
del Estrecho de Bransfield y las recientes erupciones ocurridas en Isla
Decepcion.
