Lithium battery morphology: Examining the lithium deposition structure upon cycling using in-situ measurements

Current battery research is an area of significant worldwide interest motivated by our need to change to a green economy. One pressing issue is the stability of lithium batteries. The growth of dendrites, which are spiky, tree like structures, cause significant battery degradation and eventually lead to shorts and can cause fires. In this work we will use small angle scattering to probe these structures during battery operation under different conditions to better optimise the design of such batteries.
