In 2018, the total direct spending of exhibitions worldwide reached 136.9 billion U.S dollars, with North America accounting for 43.6 percent of that amount. Europe was the second largest region in terms of exhibition spending, with a 34.1 percent share of the total. The figures included expenses of both exhibitors and visitors, and all spending related to production and attendance of exhibitions.
