Supraglacial algae-dominated samples were collected on the Greenland Ice Sheet during Summer 2021, and were melted and incubated in light and dark conditions for 12 days on the surface of the ice near the DEEP PURPLE 2021 ice camp. This data deposition includes 16S (8 files) and 18S (8 files) amplicon sequencing, and RNA sequencing data (PolyA selected, 23 files).This is a description of the samples: we have amplicon and RNA sequencing data for the initial environmental sample (amplicons and RNA, n = 2 for both analysis types, name: T_ini, date: 2021-07-21), RNA sequencing data for samples after 1 day incubation in the light (RNA only, n = 3, name: T_0, date: 2021-07-22), RNA sequencing data for samples after 2 days of incubation in the light, and 1 day in the dark (RNA only, n = 3 for the light samples and n = 3 for the dark samples, names: T1_LIGHT and T1_DARK, date: 2021-07-23), and amplicon and RNA sequencing data for samples after 13 days in the light and 12 days in the dark (amplicons and RNA, n = 3 for the light samples and n = 3 for the dark samples for both analysis types, names: T12_DARK and T12_LIGHT, date: 2021-08-03). We also included RNA blanks at T_ini (n = 1), T12_LIGHT (n = 1) and T12_DARK (n = 1). One algae-dominated ice sample (HIGH_BLOOM) was collected at the same location at a later date (2021-08-07) for RNA sequencing, which was sequenced in triplicates (n = 3).
