Multiomics analyses revealed dysregulated microbiota-gut-brain axis in spinal cord injury

Neurological restoration of SCI mice was further evaluated through behavioral testing and histopathological analysis in a time dependent manner. The gut microbiota and short chain fatty acids (SCFAs) were analyzed by 16S rDNA sequencing and gas chromatography:mass spectrometry, respectively. Gene expression profile of the colon was conducted through transcriptome sequencing. Transcriptome sequencing data showed that gut appeared different types of immune response at different phases following injury, humoral immune response, innate immune response, and adaptive immune response dominated at the processes of the acute, subacute, and chronic phases, respectively.
