Bile microbiome analysis in dogs suffered from liver and gallbladder diseases

Although the biliary system is generally aseptic, the microbiota has reported been reported in gallbladder of healthy and diseased animals and individuals. Dogs are an optimal model to study the bacterial DNAs in bile. In this study, we examined the bacterial presence by PCR, and then analyzed gallbladder microbiota, using bile of 7 healthy dogs and 52 dogs with liver and gallbladder diseases. The bacterial DNAs were detected in 9 diseased dogs among 59 dogs. According to microbiota analysis, difference in microbial diversity was observed between the group of gallbladder disease and that of liver diseases.
