Gulf war illness alterations of the mouse gut virome and bacterial microbiome

Military veterans exposed to chemicals during the Persian Gulf War developed neuroinflammation and gastrointestinal disease called Gulf War Illness (GWI). Using a mouse model of GWI, we characterized how GWI alters the gut virome and bacterial microbiome. This study identifies a new mechanistic basis of GWI and provides a novel therapeutic strategy to treat veterans with GWI.
