Bacterial activity and biochemical composition of fine particles along a size class continuum in mountain and agricultural streams

This is the data from a study on the bacterial activity and biochemical composition of fine particulate matter (FPM) in mountain and agricultural streams. The study focused on two comparisons: First, the particle characteristics were compared between the two stream types. Second, composition and bacterial activity of particles in five size classes ranging from 500 µm to 0.7 µm were compared. Particle samples were obtained by sequentially filtering stream water from five mountain and five agricultural streams. In the laboratory, bacterial protein production was measured to assess the bacterial activity and analyses of POC, PN, C/N ratios and fatty acids were conducted to investigate the biochemical particle composition. We provide a metadata sheet explaining the tables in the provided Excel file.
