Poldirad measurements on Barbados during EUREC4A - Gridded data

The German polarimetric C-band weather radar Poldirad was deployed for the field campaign EUREC4A on the island of Barbados. The radar was installed on the elevated plateau near St. Johns on the east side of the island (13.1804 N, 59.4965 W, 243 m AMSL). Main focus of the deployment was the monitoring of clouds and precipitation with a maximum range of 375 km in the trade wind region east of Barbados. The high temporal and spacial resolution of volume scans allow for detailed studies of the life cycle of precipitating shallow cumulus clouds. Three different scanning types have been used: (i) long range precipitation surveilance scans (PPI) up to 375 km range; (ii) short range volume scans (PPI, 0 - 3° elevation) up to 130 km; and (iii) vertical cross-section scans (RHI) towards the Barbados Cloud Observatoryor or towards specific targets like rain cells.
