The study has been initiated to identify and isolate indigenous probiotic strains from different sources such as home made curd, pickle, sauerkraut (fermented cabbage) and fecal samples. Different probiotic strains were obtained and identified by 16s rRNA sequencing. They were also tested for probiotic attributes such as acid and phenol tolerance, BSH activity, auto aggregation, hydrophobicity and adhesion. The whole genome sequencing of bacteria showing in vitro efficacy was conducted to identify potential probiotic genes and also negate the presence of any toxicity, virulence or anti-microbial resistance genes.
