VPRS 12685 Outward Letter Book (Supervising Engineer Marysville)

The Central Roads Board, the first agency concerned with the construction and maintenance of main roads and bridges, was abolished on 1 January 1858 and succeeded by the Department of Roads and Bridges (VA 2964) which operated under the statutory control of the Board of Land and Works (VA 744).These agencies had Road Engineers and Road Overseers located in provincial centres responsible for the execution of contracts, supervision of contractors, and the forwarding of payments, specifications, estimates and plans. This series consists of copies of the outwards correspondence of the Supervising Engineer, located in Melbourne, to the Road Engineer at Marysville and others with regard to works being done in the Marysville area of responsibility discussing contracts, accounts and personnel matters. The correspondence from the Road Overseer at Marysville may be found in VPRS 1131 Outward Correspondence, Road Overseer Marysville.VPRS 12685/P1 was formerly registered as Unit 2 of VPRS 1131 Outward Correspondence, Road Engineer Marysville. It was reserialised in 2001 as part of the ARAD Project.
