Planktotalea frisia is the type strain of the genus Planktotalea, a member of the global distributed ecological relevant Roseobacter group within the Rhodobacteraceae. This strain has been isolated in the southern North Sea and constitutes up to 0.45% of the bacterioplankton. During a phytoplankton bloom in the North Sea the strain occurred mainly free-living but also particle-associated and seems to be a good representative in order to expand the knowledge on roseobacters occurring in marine pelagic systems.
