Complete genome of Serratia marcescens WVU3, a clinical isolate from blood stream infection

Serratia marcescens is a nosocomial opportunistic pathogen that causes many infections such as urinary tract infection, blood stream infection, and endocarditis. Blood stream infections caused by S. marcescens are commonly seen in intravenous drug users (IVDU). Strains of S. marcescens were isolated from the blood stream inflections of IVDU. Genomic DNA was sequenced using two methods: short paired-read Illumina HiSeq and long read Oxford Nanopore Technology Minion. Hybrid assembly approach was used to assemble bacterial genomes.
