We applied an environmental lighting-induced weekly rotating shift schedule for 6 months to uncover its metabolic consequence specifically in visceral and subcutaneous adipose tissue. Through global gene expression profiling together with functional analysis, we show that chronic clock dysregulation results in striking adipose tissue hypertrophy with overt inflammatory response and fibrotic sequala that predispose to insulin resistance. RNA-seq analysis of the visceral fat epididymal white adipose tissue (eWAT) at ZT3 (8AM) and ZT12 (5PM) samples and the subcutaneous fat inguinal white adipose tissue (iWAT) at ZT3 (8AM) samples for normal control and the shiftwork groups.
