The coastal foreshore areas in the Byfield National Park were hardest hit when Tropical Cyclone Marcia crossed the Queensland coast in February 2015. Numerous trees were uprooted, coastal systems were severely damaged, and migratory habitats for shorebirds were destroyed. This project will work to restore environmentally significant coastal and creek bank areas that are prone to erosion and weed invasion. The section of coast within the Byfield National Park includes many sites of environmental significance at the local, regional and national level including coastal wetlands, sand dune ecosystems and Ramsar wetlands. Project sites will be selected on the basis of environmental value and level of threat by weeds, fire and habitat loss.
