DNA-seq of Betula was carried out to produce contig sequences contained SSR loci through NGS in order to (1) analyze distribution and characteristics of SSR loci in genome; (2) develop a large number of polymorphic SSR markers; and (3) evaluate cross-species transferability of these SSR markers. The obtained SSR markers can be useful to promote molecular marker assisted breeding of this species and its relatives in the future.
