Dataset for: Victoria Ashe Juniper Harvest and tree parameters

This is one of three datasets at Balcones Canyonland National Wildlife Refuge studied. This is the dataset for Project 2.

Project 2 is to develop species-specific functions, especially for Ashe juniper, to calculate canopy bulk density for improved predictions of fire behavior in the region. The Service will be substantially involved in this project and will be responsible for 1) collaborating with the Recipient to finalize site specific protocols by 30 July 2021; and 2) providing logistical support including assistance with study site access and felling trees. The Recipient will 1) collaborate with Refuge staff to write a protocol to develop functions relating individual Ashe juniper characteristics to canopy bulk density for seedling, sapling, and adult junipers by 30 July 2021; 2) measure, fell, dry, and weigh different parts (e.g., branches of different diameters) of multiple seedling, sapling, and adult trees; and 3) use best statistical practices to identify appropriate, size class-specific functions for estimating woodland Ashe juniper canopy bulk density.
