Project Overview
This study will examine the preparedness of graduate midwives in Africa in utilising digital health interventions in maternal and neonatal care using a mixed systematic review approach. As the world advances towards the use of information, communication and technology, its use to advance maternal and neonatal health remains unclear. As Africa was burdened with maternal and neonatal death, educating midwives on the use of digital health interventions promises optimal health outcomes. The study examines the integration of digital literacy into midwifery education and the challenges and benefits it faces.
Purpose of the Study
This study aimed to conduct a comprehensive review of digital health education and its integration into midwifery curricula across African countries. Factors, including competencies needed for digital training, were examined, such as students, teaching staff, and curricular content. This study seeks to provide the level of preparation of students and graduates in digital health education and ICT to help improve curricula and polices in health education.
Expected Outcomes
The comprehensive information gathered from the synthesis of evidence generated in this study on the preparation of graduate midwives for digital health integration in Africa will help identify barriers and enablers to inform and improve standards, policies, and curricula. This systematic review was conducted with the expectation of implementing changes that may influence midwifery students, especially to improve health outcomes through digital interventions.
