The District is divided into 3 planning regions to provide more specific evaluations of regional water resource issues and strategies for a long-term water supply plan The Central Florida Water Initiative (CFWI) represents a collaborative, multi-agency effort to ensure sustainable water resource planning and management in central Florida. Initiated in 2013, the initiative brings together the St. Johns River, South Florida, and Southwest Florida water management districts, along with DEP, the Florida Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services, local utilities, and other stakeholders. The CFWI planning area includes Orange, Osceola, Seminole, and Polk counties, and southern Lake County. In November 2020, the three water management districts jointly adopted a regional water supply plan to address long-term water needs and resource protection in this rapidly growing region.
