Between Code and Conscience, Between Code and Infrastructure A Scholarly Evaluation of AI, A Blessing or a Curse for Humanity?

This working paper offers a scholarly evaluation of Joseph K. Vermeille's IA : une bénédiction ou une malédiction pour l'humanité ? (2025), an eight-section, twenty-six-chapter monograph examining the contemporary AI moment through ethical, philosophical, geopolitical, sectoral, and theological lenses. The paper reads the book against a thirty-concern empirical matrix on AI data centers synthesized in May 2026 from three independent research workbooks, supported by fifty-five APA-formatted sources. It identifies three structural alignments between the book's framework and the matrix's evidence — anchored in Vermeille's tripartite haute technologie / faible technologie / sans technologie global model, in his autobiographical movement from l'Acul, Léogâne to Manhattan, and in his closing thesis that the future of AI is co-authored in conscience. The paper concludes that the book's value in the current context is to provide the scaffolding the infrastructure requires.
