Lab 2: Techniques & data- Field Training with Plants

This lab was performed on September 26th, 2014 at 2:30 pm. Two students worked together to collect the data for this lab. The students performed this experiment at York University in the woodlot region. First, the two students marked a line from outside the woodlot to the center of the woodlot. This line was just imaginary, there was nothing physical placed down to mark the line. However, the students kept in mind where this line is and used it as a guide. Then, the two students selected 10 pairs of trees that were found along this imaginary line. The distance between each pair of trees was measured using a measuring tape. This was done through placing one end of the measuring tape at one tree (tree #1) and the other end of the measuring tape at the other tree (Tree #2). The measurement was then read and recorded in meters. The diameter of the trees was also measured at breast height using the measuring tape. The measuring tape was wrapped around the tree at breast height and the measurement was recorded in meters. Lastly, each tree was rated from 0-2. The trees that looked dead received a rating of 0, trees that looked alive received a rating of 1, and trees that were big and green received a rating of 2.
