Necrobiome analysis of rabbit carcasses

The study aims to describe the post mortem microbial communities developed on rabbit carcasses which were left decomposing for 3 months in a UK urban area. The analysis was carried out on samples collected from three anatomical regions and, in particular, the effect of the fur on the development of decomposer microbial communities was for the first time investigated. Overall, the research provides a better insight into the ecology of carrion decomposition and evaluates the applicability of necrobiome analysis Forensic Veterinary Science.
