Genomes of swine extraintestinal pathogenic Escherichia coli from China

Extraintestinal Pathogenic Escherichia coli (ExPEC) poses a significant threat to both human and animal health, particularly when it exhibits resistance to multiple antibiotics. The diversity and antibiotic resistance of animal ExPEC, as well as the connection between ExPEC from animals and human infections, have not been thoroughly explored. The study involves large-scale genome sequencing and antibiotic resistance testing of 499 ExPEC isolates collected from swine disease samples between 2011 and 2017. We studied the population structure of ExPEC, the relationship between drug resistance phenotype and genotype, and the putative contribution of these ExPEC to human infections.
