Expenditure for outbound holiday trips from the Netherlands 2017-2020, by trip length

After increasing steadily from 2017 to 2019, the total expenditure for outbound holiday trips from the Netherlands declined sharply in 2020, due to the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic. Overall, most outbound vacationers from the Netherlands took trips lasting for five days or more in 2020. In that year, the expenditure for long holidays abroad reached 6.7 billion euros, dropping from roughly 16.8 billion euros in 2019. Meanwhile, the total spending on short holiday trips amounted to 833 million euros in 2020.
