Here, we sequence and assemble a genome of the Murray-Darling Basin lineage of golden perch. This reference genome will open up new avenues for genomic research in Macquaria ambigua and related taxa. For example, comparative genomics studies, identification of candidate genomic regions that may be involved in local adaptation and promotion of adaptive potential and desirable traits in hatchery breeding and stocking programs.
