NSW Foundation Spatial Data Framework - Land Cover theme

Land cover is the visible, biophysical cover on the Earth’s surface including trees, shrubs, grasses, soils, exposed rocks and water bodies, as well as anthropogenic elements such as plantations, crops and built environments. Land cover changes for many\r\nreasons, including seasonal weather, severe weather events such as cyclones, floods and fires, and human activities such as mining, agriculture and urbanisation.\r\nRemote sensing data recorded over a period of time allows the observation of land cover dynamics. Classifying these responses provides a robust and repeatable way of characterising land cover types. These complement on ground survey where available.土地覆盖（Land Cover）指地球表面可见的生物物理覆盖物，包括树木、灌木、草本植被、土壤、裸露岩石与水体，同时也涵盖人工营建要素，如人工林、农作物与建成环境。土地覆盖的变化受多种因素驱动，包括季节性气象、气旋、洪涝、野火等极端天气事件，以及采矿、农业、城市化等人类活动。长期记录的遥感（Remote Sensing）数据可用于观测土地覆盖动态变化。对上述遥感观测得到的地表响应信息进行分类，可为土地覆盖类型的特征表征提供一种稳健且可重复的方法。在条件允许的情况下，该方法可作为地面调查的有效补充。
