Dataset - Investigating the Effect of Parasocial Relationship and Interpersonal Communication on the Mental Health of Digital Fandom

This study investigates how parasocial relationships and interpersonal communication influence the mental health of K-Pop fans, focusing on BTS fans in Indonesia. Parasocial relationships are one-sided emotional bonds between fans and idols, which, despite lacking reciprocity, impact fan experiences. Using a quantitative, cross-sectional approach, the study surveyed 84 BTS Army members. Findings reveal that parasocial relationships positively affect mental health, but indirectly, with interpersonal communication as a key mediator. Supportive interactions within fandoms enhance well-being, emphasizing the role of community support. The study recommends fostering meaningful fan communication to strengthen mental health in digital fandom spaces.
