ASPECTS OF PATIENT CATEGORIES AT HIGH RISK FOR DEVELOPING COMMUNITY-ACQUIRED PNEUMONIA IN CHILDREN UNDER ONE YEAR OF AGE

Community-acquired pneumonia (CAP) is an infectious disease of the lungs that develops in individuals not currently hospitalized and is a leading cause of high morbidity and mortality worldwide. CAP tends to have a more severe course among patients with high-risk factors, which complicates therapeutic management. This article analyzes the categories of patients at increased risk for developing CAP. In particular, it addresses elderly individuals, those with immunosuppressive conditions, patients with chronic somatic diseases, individuals with low levels of social support (e.g., residents of nursing homes), as well as smokers and those who abuse alcohol. The article discusses the clinical characteristics of CAP in these populations, diagnostic approaches, the selection of antibiotic therapy based on individualized assessment, symptomatic care, and the effectiveness of preventive measures. Special attention is given to rehabilitation and follow-up strategies for patients who have experienced severe forms of CAP.This article provides valuable information for physicians, epidemiologists, family medicine practitioners, and healthcare strategists for the early identification of high-risk groups and for developing a differentiated approach to their management. Such a systematic approach contributes to reducing the incidence and complications associated with pneumonia.
