The goal of the study is to describe a new species of subterranean crustacean (Amphipoda: Gammaridae: Crangonyctidae) Crangonyx sulphurium and it habitat. C. sulphurium specimens were collected from extensive white microbial mats in De Leon Spring, Florida. The metagenomics is characterizing more recently collected white microbial mats from this aquifer system.
