资源简介:

This paper examines the use of traditional symbols in English classical literature as a means of conveying complex theological, political, and psychological concepts. Focusing on works by canonical authors such as William Shakespeare, John Milton, John Bunyan, and Edmund Spenser, as well as Romantic poets like Samuel Taylor Coleridge and William Blake, the study identifies recurring symbolic motifs—light and darkness, blood, nature, the crown, and religious imagery—as cultural artifacts that reflect the evolving moral and philosophical concerns of their time. Through close textual analysis informed by historical and interpretive criticism, this research reveals how these symbols function not merely as literary embellishments but as integral elements of a broader cultural dialogue that continues to influence literary interpretation. The study contributes to the growing field of symbolic literary criticism by situating these motifs within their original ideological and historical frameworks while highlighting their adaptability across literary eras.
