Effect of long-term fertilization on soil and rhizosphere prokaryotic communities

This study aimed at analyzing the effect of long-term fertilization strategies (organic vs. mineral) applied in the field on the assemblage of the rhizosphere microbial community of the model plant lettuce cultivated in these field soils under controlled growth chamber conditions. By applying a multidisciplinary approach, our final aim was to identify potential relationships between rhizosphere metabolite profiles and alterations in the rhizosphere microbiota with potential implications for above-ground plant performance and health depending on the long-term fertilization history of the soils.
