Metagenomic analysis of microorganisms causing biocorrosion in oil pipelines

An exploratory effort to characterize the microbial community present in biofilms formed on corrosion coupons inserted into the walls of oil pipelines in a natural environment. This characterization was carried out at a metagenomic level, with the purpose of: (1) determining the composition of the microbial community in the biofilms; (2) evaluating how the biodiversity present in the biofilms may be correlated with the occurrence of biocorrosion; and (3) indicating parameters that could be included in diagnostic and monitoring protocols for the prevention and control of biocorrosion.
