The purpose of this dataset is to catalog the varying forms of challenger-incumbent interaction in the 2011 Syrian uprising between February 1, 2011, and August 1, 2012. It draws on three news sources, the Associated Press newswire, the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights and the official state newspaper, al-Thawra. The level of analysis is the town (the Syrian Census Bureau’s fourth administrative level).
