Species-targeted sorting and cultivation of commensal bacteria from the gut microbiome using flow cytometry under anaerobic conditions

In this project we used flow cell sorting under strictly anaerobic conditions to enrich and culture target species of interest from fecal samples. Polyclonal antibodies directed against Faecalibacterium prausnitzii and Christensenella minuta were used in association with viability staining, resulting in the successfull isolation of several strains for each of the target species.
