Digital cultural heritage museums

<b>Towards a Digital Cultural Heritage Trail in Poland</b>Although the interest in digital cultural heritage is growing globally, there is still great room for improvement regarding the promotion, education, documentation, and preservation of digital hardware and software artefacts. The number of institutions (museums) displaying old digital hardware is growing in Poland. Many of them are grassroots projects. They are the work of private collectors and enthusiasts of retrocomputing and retrogaming. There is no consolidated list of digital cultural heritage museums in Poland because of their dispersed and individualized nature. The article characterizes selected digital heritage museums. The materials were collected during study visits. Structured interviews were conducted at the Museum of Electronics in Kraków using a survey questionnaire. The interviews show that visitors to the museum are interested not only in what old digital equipment looked like and how it worked but also in what is inside the devices. A certain niche for exhibitors has been found. Using an official ministry list of museums and the State Museum Register, complemented with references and online resources, the author compiled a list and map of digital cultural heritage museums in Poland. Museum mapping revealed a potential market niche. No digital heritage museum was found in south-eastern Poland that would be discussed in the media. The list and the map can be a foundation for future work to build an even more com-prehensive list of spots belonging to the Tourist Trail of Digital Cultural Heritage in Poland.
