The main objective of this project was to evaluate the long-term stability of arsenic contamination from gold mining in sediments of Yellowknife Bay (Great Slave Lake) and the potential for long-term change in arsenic diffusion from sediments to overlying water with climate warming. A multi-disciplinary study was conducted involving field measurements, laboratory experiments, and modelling. As part of the field program, water column profiles of inorganic arsenic, temperature and specific conductivity were measured in Yellowknife Bay to examine to examine the vertical distribution of surface water arsenic.
