Periodontal Inflammation Triggers a Site Specific and Wide Radius of Calcium Metabolic Effects on Alveolar Bone

This data was used in the study by Kuraji et al (2020). <br>Briefly, in this study, we used ⁴⁵Ca as an index of bone turnover and demonstrated for the first time that a unique site-specific nature of calcium metabolism occurs in alveolar bone during progression of ligature-induced periodontitis. During periodontitis, ⁴⁵Ca levels in the alveolar bone exhibited biphasic alterations, namely decreases and increases. In addition, ⁴⁵Ca uptake was suppressed at the alveolar crest close to the site of periodontal inflammation but enhanced in deep zones of the alveolar bone and furcation areas, which were distant from the site of ligation. <br>
