The larvae were reared on a keratin-rich diet and a keratin-free diet. In addition, the diet was switched 4 weeks before sampling. So we had 4 different diets (2 long-term, 2 switched). The aim was to find differentially expressed genes that are involved in keratin digestion. In addition, the samples were divided into poly(A)-eriched and poly(A)-depleted fractions in order assign the origin of the genes to the host or associated bacteria.
