MWTH_6N_albino_mouse_colony

We have detected a new albino mutation in the Tyr gene on a mouse C57BL/6N background. This colony (MWTH) has the potential for huge cost savings in genotyping when detecting potential germ line transmission. The reduction in ear clipping procedures (approximately 450 F1 mice are clipped and genotyped per week for the MGP) also has significant welfare implications in line with the 3Rs. The line also has wider implications outside of the MGP for use in the International Mouse Phenotyping Consortium. Before this line is used in chimera breeding however we would like to be certain that no other indels or re-arrangements are present which would limit the usefulness of the colony.
