Exploring the perceptions of Indian Immigrant parents on private supplementary tutoring within the context of Australian primary school education

This study investigates the motivations, experiences, and challenges faced by Indian immigrant parents in engaging paid private supplementary tutoring services for their primary school children in Australia. Drawing on qualitative research methods, including a descriptive qualitative survey questionnaire and semi-structured interviews, the research is informed by Bourdieu’s theory of capitals. The study delves into the intricate dynamics within immigrant Indian communities, examining how the social, cultural and economic factors interplay to shape parental expectations and the educational aspirations they hold for their children. By understanding these dynamics, the study aims to provide insights into the broader implications of private supplementary tutoring within the context of Indian immigrant families in Australia.
