Gut mycobiomes of Healthy, Diabetic and Diabetic Retinopathy Rats

Dysbiosis in the gut bacterial and fungal microbiomes in type 2 diabetes mellitus (DM) and diabetic retinopathy (DR) have been reported, but the mycobiome changes during progression from DM to DR is not known. Streptozotocin induced diabetic rat model was used to study the temporal changes in the gut fungal microbiome during the progression from DM to DR. Gut mycobiomes were generated, using fecal samples of Control rats, DM rats and Diabetic rats showing retinal changes indicative of DR .
