Manuscript in pencil in Ivor Gurney's hand. Manuscript in pencil in Ivor Gurney's hand, with a musical sketch written on the facing page. The poem was sent to Marion Scott in a letter of c.11 September 1918. Gurney also composed a musical setting of a version of this poem, for two voices. Included in 'War's Embers' (1919). Written while Gurney was a patient at the Middlesex War Hospital. Found in a coverless notebook used by Gurney from late August to mid-September 1918.
