Tuta absoluta, the tomato leafminer, is an economically important pest of tomatoes which can cause up to 100% yield loss if not controlled. Native to South America, this species invaded Europe in 2006 and has since spread to more than thirty European, North African and Asian countries. We are currently sequencing the genome for this species using a hybrid Illumina/PacBio strategy. The strain sequenced is a laboratory culture from Spain that was inbred by full-sib crossing for several generations. Data will be released here as it becomes available.
