Tax and social security contribution of professional soccer in Italy 2006-2017

From 2006 to 2017, the tax and total social security contribution of professional soccer in Italy rose significantly. In 2007, the professional football clubs in the Italian Football Federation spend over 864 million euros on taxes and social security. In 2017, the contributions amounted to approximately 1.27 billion euros. Italy is part of the biggest top-tier soccer leagues in Europe ("Big Five") with a total revenue of 2.49 billion euros as of the 2018/2019 season.
