This project contains shotgun metagenomic sequencing data from freshwater microbial communities collected from Draycote Reservoir (Warwickshire, UK) and enriched under controlled laboratory conditions. Eight independent enrichment cultures were established from temporally distinct lake samples collected between December 2020 and October 2022 and maintained in minimal BG11+ medium lacking organic carbon under 12:12 h light:dark cycles for up to 12 serial passages. Additionally, eight source lake water samples were collected and sequenced directly without culturing. A further experiment examined the effect of nutrient environment on community assembly by culturing replicate communities from a single source under three media conditions: standard BG11+ with vitamins and nitrate (VIT), without vitamins (noVIT), and without vitamins and nitrate (noVITnoNIT), for 10 sub-culture cycles with five replicates per condition. Metagenomic libraries were prepared using Illumina Nextera XT and sequenced on Illumina NovaSeq (2x150 bp paired-end).
