The role of microorganisms on the formation of Fe-bearing minerals in alluvial sediments from the Upper Chicamocha River Basin, ColombiaPeriodically emerged sediments in La Playa dam contain bacterial groups adapted to the alterna-tion of dry and wet periods under oxic or anoxic conditions. Sulfate-reducing bacteria (SRB), iron-reducing bacteria (IRB), sulfur oxidizing bacteria (SOB) and iron oxidizing bacteria (IOB) were detected.
