Previous studies showed that the aldehyde dehydrogenase 2 (ALDH2) rs671 polymorphism, associated with aldehyde-induced oxidative damage and inflammatory pathways, was involved in the pathomechanisms of neurodegenerative diseases, including Alzheimer's disease and Parkinson's disease. Our study investigated the influence of the ALDH2 rs671 (A) allele and high-sensitive C reactive protein on the motor and cognitive phenotypes of male and female amyotrophic lateral sclerosis patients.
