# Dual evolutionary life history strategies of phenotypic plasticity and bet-hedging demonstrated by Anastatus orientalis The data are derived from a three-year field investigation revealing that *Anastatus orientalis*, an egg parasitoid of Lycorma delicatula, optimizes phenological synchrony with its host through a dual strategy of bet-hedging and phenotypic plasticity. ## Description of the data and file structure The following provides details of the data files: ##### Timing_L. delicatula nymphs and A. orientalis adult.csv:**Contains field survey data on A. orientalis adult emergence and spotted lanternfly nymph hatching, recorded at 2-day intervals during the active season. **Date of SLF oviposition:** Oviposition date of the host, spotted lanternfly. **Date of marking SLF egg mass:** Field marking date of spotted lanternfly egg masses. **Date of egg mass retrieval and placement in field cages:** The date on which the marked spotted lanternfly egg masses were collected from their natural substrate and transferred into field cages. **Observation date:** Date of experimental observation. **Repeat(egg mass ID):** Replicate number of the experimental trial associated with each egg mass ID. **Total number of eggs:** Total egg count per egg mass replicate. **Number of Female parasitoids:** Count of emerged female parasitoids recorded on the observation date. **Number of Male parasitoids:** Count of emerged male parasitoids recorded on the observation date. **Number of hatched SLF nymphs:** Count of hatched spotted lanternfly nymphs recorded on the observation date. ##### Month_fate of SLF eggs.csv:**Monthly detailed records of the embryonic development and ultimate fate of host spotted lanternfly eggs. **Date of marking SLF egg mass:** Field marking date of spotted lanternfly egg masses. **Date of egg mass retrieval and placement in field cages:** The date on which the marked spotted lanternfly egg masses were collected from their natural substrate and transferred into field cages. **Date of dissection:** Date when host eggs were dissected for observation. **Repeat(egg mass ID):** Replicate number of the experimental trial associated with each egg mass ID. **Total number of eggs:** Total egg count per egg mass replicate. **Number of hatched SLF nymphs: **Number of hatched nymphs, determined by counting emergence holes in the egg mass. **Number of unhatched SLF:**Number of spotted lanternfly eggs that neither hatched into nymphs nor produced parasitoids. **Number of SLF nymphs collected during the current month: **Number of spotted lanternfly nymphs that were collected from rearing cages during the observation month.
