VPRS 620 Register of Inward Correspondence, Lands

This series registered inward correspondence received at the Department of Crown Lands and Survey relating to the occupation and sale of Crown lands. With its parallel register of inward correspondence VPRS 3217 Register of Inward Correspondence, Numerical System, Secretary, it succeeded the previous system in VPRS 166 Alphabetical Register of Inwards Correspondence. The register gives the registration number allocated to the piece of correspondence, the dates of the letter and of the entry, the name and address of the correspondent and a summary of the subject of the piece of correspondence and how the piece of correspondence was dealt with. The Land District to which the matter in the correspondence referred to was often annotated under the registered number. Correspondence was most often dealt with by placing it on a land file with the file number being given. Correspondence registered in this series may have been top-numbered into Occupation Branch correspondence and file systems. Correspondence in this series related to land sales, to the leasing of Crown land and the licensing of occupation and associated matters such as the payment of rents and the proceedings and constitution of Local Lands Boards.
